Until One Is Committed …

bebold

This business is simple.  It’s not always easy, but it is simple. Stay consistent with the right activities, and the business will follow.  Simple enough, but no, it isn’t easy.

There will be days when the deal you were counting on dies its fifth death. There are days that your brother calls to tell you he just had to list with the builder’s referral  agent because of the delux toaster he would be getting at close of escrow. There will be days when you will be on that vacation that you oh-so-deserve, and the friend you have been working with for a year finds their dream home.  These are the moments that aren’t easy. I’ve been through every one of them.

Okay, okay… the toaster was an exaggeration, but my brother listing with the builder’s referral?  Legit!

If you were looking for easy, this business ain’t it.  But, the upside can be big. There are lots of reasons we all sign on to do what we do, but these are the days that make us think, maybe I could have… or maybe I should have…. and we wonder if maybe the grass might not be greener doing something else.

Whether you are a new agent or a seasoned agent experiencing significant growth or a lull in business, there are moments that make us second guess ourselves along the way. The following quote is something I have had hanging in my office since 2004.

The source of the quote is controversial.  It has been attributed to Goethe, but that is not entirely accurate.

Either way, it has always resonated with me.  It helps me to stay the course when days are tough, and I have found that its underlying message has been profoundly true for me.  When one is truly committed, ‘providence moves, too’. My job is always to stick to my committment and do my job. When I do that, deals always show up, and often in the places I least expect.

Until one is committed
There is hesitancy, the chance to draw back
Always ineffectiveness.

Concerning all acts of initiative (and Creation)
There is one elementary truth
The ignorance which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:

That the moment that one definitely commits ones self
Then Providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one
That would never otherwise have occurred.

A whole stream of events issues from the decision
Raising in one’s favor all manner
Of unforeseen incidents and meetings
And material substance
Which no one could have dreamt
Would have come your way.

Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.

Maybe the most important part of this quote is the first lines.  As long as one feels hesitancy (read: lack of committment) you are always ineffective. Once you are all in, providence moves, too.

Be bold, and know that we are here to support you in that commitment.
